VIRTUAL TOUR

      Virtual Tour to Sabarmati Ashram

Introduction
A virtual tour is the simulation of an existing location with the help of sequential videos or still images. Other multimedia elements like music, sound effects, floor plans, etc., could also be used. They help in recreating a realistic representation of reality. Virtual tours help in presenting views to inaccessible areas and provide an interesting and excellent alternative to fieldwork when expenses, time or logistics are an issue for people. A good virtual tour should be able to integrate diverse data types using instantly available methods. It should be able to project images from different viewpoints and scales, and should display non-visual data and be able to enhance and expand user experience.
Virtual tours can be provided to all user levels with flexible access and can be customized to meet the needs of the users. They can give a broader view of things compared to normal views. Virtual tours can also provide an experience that can be repeated, and this feature helps in many ways, especially in education, where it can help reinforce learning for students.
My virtual tour was to Sabarmati Ashram as part of my B.Ed curriculum under the guidance of Smt.Chitra S,Assistant Professor,Nedunganda.

Sabarmati Ashram
The virtual tour to Sabarmati ashram was done through Gandhi Ashram website.
Sabarmati ashram is located in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on the banks of River Sabarmati. This was one of the many residences of Mahatma Gandhi who lived at Sabarmatui for a total of twelve years with his wife Kasturba Gandhi and his followers.

Udyog Mandir

Udyog Mandir was a laboratory to implement Gandhiji's economic ideology. The charakha(spinning-wheel) was at the centre of Gandhiji's fight for swaraj. This iswhere 'Khadi-nomics' was invented. Volunteers from across the country came hereto be trained to promote and spread the mantra "sutarnatanteswarajya"which meant self-ruler Swaraj through yarn.During the historical strike of the mill workers in Ahmedabad in 1918; theworkers and Ashram residents laid the foundations of this building using thesand from the banks of the river sabarmati. The mill-workers thus found workand employment for a time. This is a symbol of their diligence.

Gandhiji stayed at the Sabarmati Ashram from 1917 to 1930. This became his karmabhoomi;the land of his karma his actions. Similar to the successful practice of satyagraha (the insistence of truth through non violent resistance) inSouth Africa, even India's independence could be achieved through the same path': this was the hope Gandhiji carried with him when he returned to hishomeland on January 9, 1915. In order to lead a public life, he set up an Ashram on May 25 of that same year, in a rented bungalow in a village inAhmedabad called Koch rab. Names such as Sevashram, Tapovan,Satyagraha Ashram were considered for the Ashram, but Gandhiji used to say: 'My life is dedicated to the pursuit of truth. I want to live in it's pursuit, and even the death is acceptable'.

The Teachings of the Three Monkeys

An inspirational message, 'Speak no evil, hear no evil, and see no evil', is very popular. This toy was gifted to Gandhiji byNichidatsu Fuji a Buddhist monk from Japan,Gandhiji really liked it; and usedto keep it on his table.

Gandhi Memorial Museum

The Gandhi Memorial Museum was inaugurated on May 10, 1963, by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Retaining the unique features of the oldconstruction at the Ashram buildings, the design for this modern museum was preparedby Charles Correa the world renowned architect. This museum is spread acrossfifty four (54) cubicle, in which there are the three main galleries.
